Before Blood Pressure, let's understand Blood

Blood is a fluid that transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells and carries away carbon dioxide and other waste products.

You need continuous blood flow through your heart and body to stay alive.

Your heart is a powerful muscle that pumps oxygen-rich blood out to your body.

Once it leaves your heart this blood flows through many blood vessels to reach every part of your body from the major organs (like your brain) to the smallest tissues at the tips of your toes.

Your blood is always on the go and it has two main jobs while it’s flowing through your body:

  1. It delivers oxygen and nutrients to all your organs and tissues.

  2. It removes carbon dioxide and other waste products from those same places.

The blood then returns to your heart once it’s low on oxygen and full of waste products.

It needs to get filled with oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide so your heart pumps it out to blood vessels in your lungs.

Your blood gains oxygen and gets rid of waste in your lungs before flowing back to your heart.

Your heart gratefully accepts this refreshed blood and pumps it back out to your body.

In addition to its role in delivering oxygen and nutrients blood also contains infection-fighting cells called white blood cells.

White blood cells are crucial in protecting the body from infection.

Your white blood cells circulate throughout your body and respond to infections and foreign materials.

Now you know that blood is really important and the blood has to reach everywhere on time for keeping you alive and healthy.

Correct pressure is needed for pumping blood to the heart as well as to other parts of your body.

What is Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the result of two forces.

The first force (systolic pressure) happens as blood pumps out of the heart and into the arteries.

The second force (diastolic pressure) is created as the heart rests between heart beats.

When blood pressure is high for too long, it can damage the walls of blood vessels causing them to develop tiny tears. To fix these damaged areas our body sends special cells that stick to the site.

Over time, substances such as cholesterol and fats may also build up at these damaged spots, forming plaque.

As plaque slowly builds, a process called atherosclerosis, it can make the inside of the arteries narrower.

This narrowing can block the flow of blood, further increasing blood pressure leads to following problems:

  • Stroke

  • Vision loss

  • Heart failure

  • Heart attack

  • Kidney failure

  • Sexual dysfunction

High Blood Pressure Early Warning Signs

Most people with high blood pressure don’t feel any symptoms. But if you're having following problems this could be an early warning signs:

  • Abnormal heart rhythm

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Severe headaches

  • Chest pain

  • Dizziness

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Blurred vision or other vision changes

  • Anxiety

  • Confusion

  • Buzzing in the ears

  • Nose bleeds

How to Prevent High Blood Pressure

Following a healthy lifestyle is considered the best way to prevent high blood pressure. How to do it:

  1. Keep your weight healthy

  2. Keep your body FAT under control

  3. Eat heart-healthy foods, avoid heart damaging foods

  4. Be active, stay fit

  5. Don’t smoke or if you do now, quit

  6. Learn healthy ways to manage stress

  7. Track your blood pressure

  8. Track your body FAT percentage

  9. Check your small dense LDL Cholesterol(sdLDL test)

Conclusion:

Managing high blood pressure is crucial for maintaining overall health and preventing serious conditions like heart disease and stroke.

Unfortunately high blood pressure doesn't show any symptoms so the best way is prevention. One of the first thing I personally start with is by checking my weight and if I think I am overweight, I do an immediate sDLDL test to see whether my numbers are good and if my cholesterol is high, I will immediately cut down that by following a healthy diet and exercise regime.
