What is Type-2 Diabetes?

August 03, 20244 min read

When you eat food your body break down the nutrients from that food, one of the nutrient for example is glucose( a type of sugar) enters to your bloodstream. This newly entered sugar raise your blood sugar level....that is a problem!

Too much of sugar is not good because that can damage your body parts like blood vessels, nerves, eyes, kidney etc. but don't worry your body have a mechanism to solve this problem.

Your body releases a hormone called insulin when blood sugar levels rise after eating.

Insulin acts like a key, allowing glucose or sugar to enter the cells so that the cells can use the sugar or store it as fat for later use.

This process helps your body keep the blood sugar levels within a healthy range because too much can be harmful.

What is Type 2 diabetes

For many people the above process doesn't work as it should!

Their body either doesn't produce enough insulin or the cells become resistant to insulin.

As a result the "key" doesn't work properly and glucose or sugar can't enter the cells efficiently.

This leads to a buildup of sugar in the bloodstream.

Which means type 2 diabetes means high sugar level in the blood stream.

Symptoms of Type 2 diabetes

Now you know what is Type 2 diabetes. You also know type 2 diabetes may damage your body if not treated so the question "is it possible to early detect type 2 diabetes?"

Simple answer is Yes because your body may show following symptoms:

  1. Increased Thirst and Frequent Urination: High blood sugar levels cause the kidneys to work harder to filter and absorb the excess glucose. When they can't keep up the excess glucose is excreted into the urine, dragging fluids from your tissues making you dehydrated and more thirsty.

  2. Increased Hunger: Without enough insulin to move sugar into your cells, your muscles and organs become depleted of energy leading to an increase in hunger.

  3. Fatigue: When your cells are deprived of sugar, you may become tired and lethargic.

  4. Blurred Vision: High blood sugar levels can cause the lenses of your eyes to swell, affecting your ability to see clearly.

  5. Slow Healing of Wounds: High blood sugar can affect your body's ability to heal cuts and sores.

  6. Frequent Infections: Type 2 diabetes may lead to more frequent infections, particularly of the gums, skin, or bladder.

  7. Unintended Weight Loss: Despite eating more, some people may lose weight because their bodies can't efficiently use the energy in food.

  8. Tingling or Numbness in Hands or Feet: High blood sugar can affect nerve function, leading to tingling, numbness, or pain in the extremities, a condition known as neuropathy.

  9. Darkened Areas of Skin: Some people with Type 2 diabetes may develop patches of dark, velvety skin in the folds and creases of their bodies often in the armpits and neck. This condition, known as acanthosis nigricans can be a sign of insulin resistance.

"Prevention is better than cure"

Good news is Type 2 diabetes is a preventable disease.

So if you're not yet a Type 2 Diabetic patient, make sure you're doing following actions to prevent it because my preferred way is prevention first!

How to prevent Type 2 diabetes:

  1. Eat your Nutrition: Your body need nutrients to function properly so make sure you're eating all the essential nutrients. Super markets are filled with lot of foods so make sure you know how to choose the best nutritious food that will help you not become a type 2 diabetic patient. (if you don't know what are those essential nutrients, get LEAN30 by clicking the link here)

  2. Move: Being physically active is good for preventing Type 2 diabetes. Whether you feel like going for a run or a swim or some arm stretches or on-the-spot walking while the kettle boils it all makes a difference.

  3. Lose weight: Losing extra weight have benefits both physically and emotionally. Extra weight around your waist means fat can build up around your organs like your liver and pancreas. This can cause something called insulin resistance. So losing this weight could help the insulin you produce work properly.

  4. Eat like your ancestor: Yes! now most of us are leaving in a luxurious time period where food is available 24/7 but that doesn't mean you should eat all the time. Remember when ever you eat food, your blood sugar raise, your pancreas create Insulin so if you're forcing your pancreas crate insulin all the time, it simply means the pancreas is working too much, your cells are working too much. Too much of anything is bad & unhealthy. Make sure you keep a balance & you do everything to keep that balance.
