What is Cholesterol?

Most of the people are afraid of cholesterol but you don't need to and I will explain you why!

What is cholesterol

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in our body. Your body needs cholesterol to build cells, make vitamins and other hormones. Scientists says an average human body have 30 trillion cells. So there is no surprise why our body need lot of cholesterol for us to function properly. So you don't have to worry about cholesterol unless it is too much.

Cholesterol comes from two sources

  1. Your liver makes it

  2. Foods you eat

Foods With No Cholesterol

Foods that come from plants are entirely free from dietary cholesterol.

Examples of these foods include:

  • Fruits

  • Vegetables

  • Whole grains like oats, brown rice, and quinoa

  • Plant-based solid fats such as nuts, seeds, avocado, and olives

  • Plant-based liquid fats such as olive oil, sunflower seed oil, and avocado oil

  • Legumes, such as peas, beans, chickpeas, and lentils

Foods having high cholesterol

  • Packaged cookies, cakes, donuts, and pastries

  • Potato chips and crackers

  • Commercially fried foods

  • Bakery goods that contain shortening

  • Buttered popcorn

  • Products containing partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated vegetable oils
